Mow Cop Runners was founded in May 2009 and is affiliated to England Athletics for Road, Fell and Cross Country running.  The club has grown rapidly and now has over 30 members, mainly from Mow Cop, Scholar Green, Kidsgrove, Biddulph, Congleton, the northern Potteries and surrounding areas.  Every year we enter teams in the North Staffs Cross Country League and the British Fell & Hill Running Relay Championships. Members are active in many local and national races on all surfaces. Other members just run to keep fit or socially. We welcome all runners to the club whether slower beginners, more experienced or super fast!

Our main club run takes place on Tuesday evenings: 7.10pm for a 7.15pm start from The Ash Inn, Mow Cop. This is for about an hour's run on the road in winter and a bit longer off road in the summer. Please come along and give us a try.

The club would like to invite any new runners in the area to beginner sessions meeting at the Ash Inn on Tuesdays at 7:10pm for a 7:15pm start. We will help you to build your confidence and mileage over the next few weeks so please feel free to come along and give it a try! Please ask for Di Lapworth on arrival.

Other sessions take place on Thursdays 6.30pm in Kidsgrove, and Sunday mornings. Contact Geoff Pettengell for more details.

• Results from the Roaches fell race can be found here, well done to everyone who took part: Results

• The Roaches Fell race is taking place this Sunday 13th November starting 10:30 at Meerbrook Village Hall GR 987608. Entry on the day is £5.00 only for this classic race over the Roaches to Shutlingsloe and back. This is a category BL race of 15 miles with 3700ft of ascent. Free parking is at Tittesworth Reservoir Car Park,just  follow the officials directions and 15 mins walk to the Village Hall. No parking and limited toilets at Village Hall. Changing in Hall, Refreshments at Finish, Use Toilets at Car Park. Cakes for sale in hall. Please ensure you carry full kit..

• 5 Club members will be running in the New York Marathon this Sunday the 6th of November: Di Lapworth, Sarah Platt, Clare Holdcroft, Louise Finney and Darren Hunt.     Team position- 5th overall.

    Team position-11th overall.

• 23/10/2011 - Passing Clouds Results:
  • Jack 3rd 74.05, Dean 28th 84.02, Ode 30th 85.07, Geoff 59th 91.12, Wain 87th 97.37, Russ 135th 107.36, Jo 178th 128.37, Lorraine 183rd 137.55

• The club will be competing in the British Fell and hill relays at Kettlewell Yorkshire this coming weekend. The club are sending an A and B team (12 members in total) so hope to put in a strong performance. Good luck to everyone competing.

• 09/10/2011 - Another busy weekend for the club with a large number of members competing in the NSCCL at Winsford on Saturday and the Congleton half marathon and Windgather fell race on Sunday:
  • NSCCLWinsford - Both the Ladies and Mens team are currently 6th in division 2 of their respective leagues, a very good turnout from club members has got the club off to a very strong start.
  • Congleton half - The club was represented by 12 runners on Sunday, many of whom had run at Winsford the previous day, so this was an excellent turnout once again. A number of members recorded PBs on the day: Dean Windsor (27th) 1:24:52, Nigel Moult (131st) 1:39:26, Louise Finney (203rd) 1:47:00 and Darren Hunt (247th) 1:50:13. Well done everyone!
  • Windgather fell race - Geoff Pettengell and John Rowlands represented the club on Sunday and put in very good performances with Geoff finishing an excellent 83rd in 2:12:01 and John 124th in 2:21:13..

• 3/10/2011 - Well done to Jo and Lorraine who both completed the Sandstone trail 17.1 mile challenge on Sunday.

• 18/09/2011 - Well done to Darren Hunt who ran the Great North Run today in a personal best of 01:53:32. This was the first of of his 3 race challenge.
