Mow Cop Runners was founded in May 2009 and is affiliated to England Athletics for Road, Fell and Cross Country running.  The club has grown rapidly and now has over 30 members, mainly from Mow Cop, Scholar Green, Kidsgrove, Biddulph, Congleton, the northern Potteries and surrounding areas.  Every year we enter teams in the North Staffs Cross Country League and the British Fell & Hill Running Relay Championships. Members are active in many local and national races on all surfaces. Other members just run to keep fit or socially. We welcome all runners to the club whether slower beginners, more experienced or super fast!

Our main club run takes place on Tuesday evenings: 7.10pm for a 7.15pm start from The Ash Inn, Mow Cop (from the COMMUNITY HALL, next to St. Thomas's church, near the MOW COP INN from 6th November 2012) This is for about an hour's run on the road in winter and a bit longer off road in the summer. Please come along and give us a try.

The club would like to invite any new runners in the area to beginner sessions meeting at the Ash Inn on Tuesdays at 7:10pm for a 7:15pm start. We will help you to build your confidence and mileage over the next few weeks so please feel free to come along and give it a try! Please ask for Di Lapworth on arrival.

Other sessions take place on Thursdays 6.30pm in Kidsgrove, and Sunday mornings. Contact Geoff Pettengell for more details.

  •  STOP PRESS!! ROACHES RACE NOV 11TH:

We have been forced to make some changes to the race this year. This is because of Natural England's concern about the spread of Phytophthora pseudosyringae.

1. The route will be amended as per the map here, with a new route to be followed this year (both out and back) between Roach End and the river crossing.

http://mh.k313.com/mh/fell/roaches2012.pdf

As this change applies to both the out and back routes it will add approximately 3 miles to the race, but no significant extra ascent (so the race is now 18 ml / 3700' of ascent, or whatever that is in new money). Estimated winning time could be another 25 minutes.

Copies of the map showing the complete 'new' route will be available at the start.

The new section of route will be partially marked and marshalled, It is expressly forbidden to use the 'old' race route through Back Forest Wood / Gradbach Wood on this section, either out or back.

2. Safety : Because of the extra distance, and the time of year, we will insist that Full windproof body cover, and a whistle, MUST be carried by all runners. Other kit requirements (waterproof cover, hat, gloves etc.) may be specified on the day depending on the weather forecast. BRING YOUR KIT TO THE RACE. We have been fortunate with the weather over the last few years, but there's no guarantee we won't have something more 'typical' for the time of year.
